Android Forced to Run on iPhone 3G Successfully!

by Jeffry on May 6, 2010

iPhone Hacker David Wang popularly known as planetbeing is trying hard to port Android operating system on iPhone that could work flawlessly on Apple’s hardware. Few days back he was able to boot Google’s Android operating system on iPhone 2G. Recently, he installed android OS on iPhone 3G (with few features being left) and posted picture of an iPhone 3G booting into a BusyBox / Buildroot shell and later posted a video that shows you iPhone 3G with full support multitouch running android. Since then, we are following him with great interest since the idea of porting the Android OS on iPhone 3G has come out last week. Planetbeing has now successfully ported the Android OS on iPhone 3G. Video after the Jump!

As mentioned earlier, the goal of this port is to offer a viable alternative in terms of OS to iPhone users. It is based on Open iBoot, a method developed by Planetbeing to allow a dual boot on the iPhone: when you start the iPhone you will be prompted to select the operating system of your choice.

It is being reported that you can now use the Android OS to browse the web and run any application that does not require audio support, send and receive SMS text messages over the cell phone radio and also use the Wi-Fi. The hacker is already working for audio support on the 3G using native bootloader, improved power management, backlight control mechanism and might be coming in a few days.

Although the project is continuing successfully, I think that Android OS will never have the same stability of the native operating system of the iPhone. Share your opinions!
