BlackBerry PlayBook will Run Android Apps, Claims RIM Representative [VIDEO]

by Jeffry on February 28, 2011

You heard that right! PlayBook will allow you to run Android apps. Research in Motion’s representative has been caught on video saying “we will also support Android apps when we release the Dalvik engine on top of QNX,” while showing off a PlayBook at Mobile World Congress earlier this month. Check out the video after the break!

Dalvik is the same VM used in Android, which would mean you could basically drag and drop Android apps onto the PlayBook. This strategic move from RIM would definitely give PlayBook access to around 5000 apps on its launch day. And a huge jump as a good repository of applications is very much required for the success of any new smartphone or tablet.

Some conflicting reports are stemming out, stating that RIM won’t release PlayBook on Dalvik engine, but rather on a different one. We will keep you posted as and when we get more reports on it. Follow us on twitter or join our facebook fanpage to keep you updated on Google Android. Via BGR
