SMS Backup is a free Android application that automatically backs up SMS messages from your Android device to Gmail. The SMS will be stored under the “SMS” label in Gmail which is located in the left sidebar. Before using SMS backup for Android phone make sure you have a valid Gmail account.

How to use SMS Backup Android application
Step #1 Download SMS Backup from Android Market by clicking the following link on your device: Android Market listing and install it.
Step #2 Launch SMS Backup and enter your Google username and password.
Step #3 After entering your login credentials, SMS Backup will prompt you to perform a first sync. This is one time manual activity.
Step #4 If you choose to Backup, SMS Backup will start backing up your messages to Gmail. You can back up 100 messages at a time.
Step #5 If you choose to Skip, SMS will not be sent to Gmail and will be marked as “backed up” in your Android device. This option is useful if you previously uninstalled SMS Backup and do not want to send your messages again to Gmail.
Step #6 Once the initial backup is completed, SMS Backup runs in the background and archive or backup all of your current and future SMS messages. Incoming messages are backed up 20 seconds after they arrived on the device, while outgoing messages are backed up after a maximum of 30 minutes.
Step #7 You can optionally use the “Stop backup” button in order to cancel SMS backup to Gmail for Android Phone.
