SHAtter will Jailbreak all existing iOS iDevices forever. posixninja and pod2g have discovered the first exploit of the S5L8930 chip (the A4), which allows the use of unsigned code execution in order to create a tethered jailbreak ‘SHAtter’, a jailbreak for life. This same exploit was earlier discovered independently by geohot, who left jailbreak community a few months ago.

pod2g found a new bootrom exploit to jailbreak iOS 4.1 yesterday and early today Musclenerd confirmed that iOS 4.1 Bootrom exploit works flawlessly on new iPod touch 4G, iPhone 4 and on iPad as well as all of them has the same IBoot-574.4

Those who don’t know, Bootrom exploit, which is unlike userland exploit JailbreakMe is a low level-bootrom exploit, that can’t be fixed by Apple without a new hardware release of iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad and the iPod touches with new bootroms. Just firmware update will not going to patch the bootrom exploit.

Update iPhone 4 on iOS 4.1 to Retain Original Baseband 1.59.00 Unlock

As the baseband has been updated to 2.10.4 in the iOS 4.1 firmware, carrier unlock tool Ultrasn0w 1.1-1 won’t be able to unlock your iPhone 4 or iPod Touch 4G. Even after downgrading iPhone firmware back to iOS 4.0.x, the baseband does not change. You may follow simple steps listed below to update iPhone 4 to iOS 4.1 without upgrading 1.59.00 Baseband to 2.10.4.

Notcom has now updated TinyUmbrella which provides baseband protection for your iPhone 4 or iPod Touch 4G riding on iOS 4.1. Previously, while upgrading to latest firmware on new baseband, it wasn’t possible to downgrade the baseband regardless of firmware downgrade. But now, you can downgrade baseband as well, till Apple signs iOS 4.0.2 firmware. For example, if you update your iPhone 4 to iOS 4.1, your baseband will be updated to 2.10.4 and when you downgrade it to iOS 4.0.2 your baseband will be downgraded to 1.59.00 which wasn’t possible before.

NOTE: The following guide will upgrade your iPhone 4 to iOS 4.1 while preserving your current baseband. If you are on iOS 4.0.1, you will lose your jailbreak and unlock. However, if you have already saved your SHSH Blobs for 4.0.1 or earlier, you can retain jailbreak and carrier unlock on your iPhone 4. If you want to play with iOS 4.1 and want to get your hands dirty, follow the process below in upgrading your iPhone to iOS 4.1 while retaining original baseband

How to Update iPhone 4 on iOS 4.1 Without Upgrading 1.59.00 Baseband to 2.10.4

Step 1: Download latest TinyUmbrella 4.1.3

Step 2: Carry out the steps below to flawlessly downgrade baseband.

Close TinyUmbrella (if open)
Close iTunes (if open)
Remove ALL lines in your hosts file that contain gs.apple.com
Windows: Start -> cmd -> ipconfig /flushdns
Mac: Terminal -> dscacheutil -flushcache

Step 3: Start TinyUmbrella 4.1.3

Step 4: Click Save My SHSH to save your 4.0.1 or 4.0.2 SHSH blob

Step 5: Start the TTS Server

Step 6: In order to fix 3002 errors, if any, check the Advanced Options. In the Device/Version box, select iPhone 4.1 (8B117) and Click Save My SHSH again to save a 4.1 SHSH blob. Make sure iTunes is still closed

Step 7: Start iTunes and hit the restore button to restore to iOS 4.1.

Step 8: A screen will come prompting you to select iOS 4.1 Software update. Accept the iOS 4.1 Update and select Next to continue.

Step 9: After the update process is completed, iTunes might show the following error messages: “The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (10044).” and “iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.” Press “OK” to continue.

Step 10: Return to TinyUmbrella and select “kick device out of recovery” to restart your device normally.

Voila! Your iPhone 4 is now on iOS 4.1 with the older 1.59.00 baseband !

On iOS 4.1, you will surely lose your jailbreak on your iPhone and iPod Touch, and being latest firmware you might face incompatibility issues with your favorite iPhone apps forcing you to return to old iOS 4.0.1 firmware. If for any reason, you upgraded it to iOS 4.1 and would go back to 4.0.1 or iOS 4.0.2, then follow the steps (posted here). Once Downgraded, you can jailbreak and carrier unlock (all basebands) you iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G using following guides:

pod2g found a new bootrom exploit to jailbreak iOS 4.1 yesterday and now Musclenerd is confirming that iOS 4.1 Bootrom exploit works flawlessly on new iPod touch 4G, iPhone 4 and on iPad as well as all of them has the same IBoot-574.4

That latest exploit from @pod2g confirmed to work beyond iPhone4…also on at least iPad and yesterday’s iPod4G too

Basically, if all goes well, any iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4 and iPad that are produced before Apple updates the bootrom will be jailbreakable for the life of the device regardless of the firmware update. Jailbreak PlayStation 3 / PS3 With HTC EVO 4G Using PSFreedom

PSFreedom exploit has been ported into HTC EVO 4G to jailbreak Play Station 3 / PS3! Guys over xda-developers have jailbroken PS3 (PlayStation 3) Console with rooted EVO 4G on stock kernal. Hit the video and instructions on how to jailbreak PlayStation 3 with HTC EVO using PSFreedom / PSGroove Exploit.

How to Jailbreak PlayStation 3 PS3 with HTC EVO using PSFreedom

Step 1: Connect your HTC EVO android device via usb and turn on disk storage and copy this file to the root of your SD card.

Step 2: Take a backup of your current ROM. This will allow you to easily restore just the working Boot partition via Nandroid->Advance Restore later. Check your device compatibility as well.

Step 3: Flash the file you downloaded from here via Amon Recovery

Step 4: Plug your Evo into your ps3 with the power button off for fat consoles and for slim consoles unplug your power cable.

Step 5: Turn on your system with the power button and quickly press eject. If done correctly, ps3 should take a little bit longer to boot up and console should show underneath games, install .pkg files. This is where you can install things such as backup manager.

Step 6: Unplug your phone after successfully booting the ps3 into “dev” mode.

Step 7: You can now restore the nandroid you were previously on and call it a session. Redo the process whenever you turn on the ps3.

Jailbreak PlayStation 3 / PS3 With Motorola Droid Using PSFreedom

Motorola Droid can also be used to jailbreak Play Station 3 / PS3! Guys over psx-scene have jailbroken PS3 (PlayStation 3) Console with rooted Motorola Droid using PSFreedom exploit. This port of PSFreedom for the Droid has been compiled against 2.6.32 kernel, so make sure that the rootfs is from a ROM that uses that kernel. It was tested on CyMod6 but anything from that kernel should work. On the downside, Motorola Droid will not be able to charge or use USB of any sort other than JB when flashed with this kernel.

How to jailbreak PS3 Console with Motorola Droid

Step 1: Take a backup of your current ROM. This will allow you to easily restore just the working Boot partition via Nandroid->Advance Restore later. Check your device compatibility as well.

Step 2: Copy boot.img to sdcard

Step 3: Copy psfreedom.ko to /data/ on root of device

Step 4: Boot into recovery mode and via adb cd to sdcard and run “flash_image boot boot.img”

Step 5: Restart device normally and run Terminal Emulator.

Step 6: In terminal type “su” then enter

Step 7: Then type “insmod data/psfreedom.ko”

Step 8: Follow normal PSJB steps to jailbreak your PlayStation 3. Disconnect the main PS3 power, connect the phone to the PS3, reconnect main power, press power button immediately followed by eject. That’s all!

Sometimes, iPhone 4 users are unable to connect because the weak signal reception and most of us blame Apple for its faulty Antenna design. But now, you can put your iPhone into field test mode, which will allow to test your cell signal reception quality. All you need is to update your iPhone 4, 3GS or 3G to iOS 4.1 and then Dial *3001#12345#* into your iPhone.

Eventually, the signal bars will be replaced with a number (like -75). The more negative the number, the worse the signal is. Example: -120 is worse than -75. Once activated, you can switch between signal bars and number by touching on the number.

If you’re on iOS 4.0.1 and jailbroken, then stay away from this update or you’ll lose your Jailbreak and unlock. HOwever, iPhone users on iOS 4.0.1 or lower can install Signal Cydia App (from planetbeing) that displays the real signal strength, data about your cell reception and plots a map of your nearby cell towers. Signal iPhone app allow you to measure or check real signal strength that will eventually help you in taking a decision to switch to a different carrier or not.

Just after the Apple released iOS 4.1 to public, an iPhone hacker pod2g (of Chronic Dev Team) has discovered a new bootrom based exploit to jailbreak all devices on iOS 4.1 firmware.

congrats to @pod2g for the latest exploit and also @p0sixninja who have been trying for months.

Crazy timing that @pod2g got latest exploit just as 4.1 went public (lots of work left…keep away from 4.1 for now!)

If you want to test the validity, use the keys provided to decrypt the 4.0.1 firmware dmg – while this is indeed excellent news it most likely means we may have to wait some time for a Jailbreak for 4.1 while the Dev team mash out the exploit – I believe they had userland exploits in hand which would have been quick to deploy, but it is pointless wasting them if they can use this bootrom exploit which pretty much makes jailbreak stable until Apple manufacture devices with new hardware.

iPhone Arriving on T-Mobile Network, confirms T-Mobile Manager!

This in indeed HUGE for T-Mobile users in US! Finally, Apple iPhone might be made available on T-Mobile network. Chris Anderson, the editor in chief of Wired has almost confirmed T-Mobile to carry the iPhone 3GS later this year. Surprisingly, iPhone 4 will not be available. Chris tweeted - “A T-Mobile manager casually mentioned to me that they’re going to get the iPhone 3GS (but not 4, oddly) later this year.”

Notably, few months back, Kaufman Bros. analyst Shaw Wu, reported that T-Mobile has greater probability instead of Verizon wireless as its network wouldn’t require Apple to build a separate iPhone 4 to support it. He further added that T-Mobile’s 3G services (UMTS/HSPA) supports 1700 MHz and 2100 MHz frequencies while AT&T supports 850 MHz and 1900 MHz frequencies. Interestingly, both the new iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS support 3G at the 2100 MHz frequency and, from our understanding, the technical hurdle to support T-Mobile is minor compared to supporting CDMA technology at Verizon and Sprint.

If the rumors turns out to be legit then this would be the first time in US that iPhone will be made available across multiple carriers apart from AT&T and eventually increasing the iPhone sales by a little more than a third. Well, rolling out iPhone across major US carriers might play a pivotal role in increasing iPhone sales significantly. Imitating Google? What do you think? Any thought?

Apple Releases iOS 4.1 for iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G and iPod Touch 4G!

Apple has just released the iOS 4.1 final Software Update for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPod touch 4G and is available for download. iOS 4.1 update brings fix for Proximity sensor, Bluetooth and iPhone 3G bugs. Features like high dynamic range (HDR) photography, HD video upload to YouTube and MobileMe from iPhone 4 over WiFi, TV show rentals, and Game Center.

As iOS 4.1 is live now, just connect to iTunes and hit the update button. If you’re already on the iOS 4.1 GM, hit restore instead of update. If you’re on iOS 4.0.1 and jailbroken, then stay away from this update or you’ll lose your Jailbreak. Comex not to release iOS 4.1 Jailbreak!

Few days back MuscleNerd confirmed that iOS 4.1 exploit to jailbreak iPhone, iPod Touch will be coming straight from the hands of comex that uses userland exploit like JailbreakMe, and if not then we will have to wait for a low-level bootrom exploit which may take longer to release. Surprisingly, Comex has confirmed that the next iOS 4.1 jailbreak may not come from him.
