CDMA iPhone 4 on Verizon Soon a Reality, Due in January 2011?

by Jeffry on August 8, 2010

Rumor bells for CDMA version of iPhone 4 have started ringing all around the web again but this time we have got some solid proof. Techcrunch is closely monitoring the supply chain to confirm that Verizon will be selling CDMA iPhone 4 in January 2011.

Currently, the most dominant supplier of CDMA chipsets in the world is Qualcomm and reports are coming that Apple has placed orders for millions of units of Qualcomm CDMA chipsets for a Verizon iPhone 4 (iPhone 5?). Steve Added:

Sources with knowledge of this entire situation have assured me that Apple has submitted orders for millions of units of Qualcomm CDMA chipsets for a Verizon iPhone run due in December. This production run would likely be for a January launch, and I’d bet the phone is nearly 100% consistent with the current iPhone 4 (with a fixed internal insulator on the antenna).

Even Barclays Capital analyst Ben Reitzes and Bank of America, Merrill Lynch analyst Scott Craig  claimed few weeks back that USA might be bestowed with CDMA version of iPhone 4 on Verizon no later than the first quarter of 2011 and added that Verizon could sell 9 million iPhones next year which might be retailing for $320.

Notably, Verizon has over 93 million customers in US and making the iPhone 4 available through Verizon CDMA network could open up a significant new market for Apple helping Apple to nearly double the number of iPhone users in the U.S and if iPhone 4 lands-up with T-Mobile, the iPhone 4 sales would increase by a little more than a third.

Apple now wants to imitate Google strategy of rolling out its major smartphone across all major carriers and we think that Steve Jobs will soon announce the next iPhone 4 availability across major US carriers (Verizon/Sprint/AT&T/T-Mobile).

Well, rolling out iPhone 4 across major US carriers might play a pivotal role in increasing iPhone 4 sales significantly. What do you think? Any thought?

I actually believe this is a possibility and do not think that this is a false accusation. I especially believe this due to the fact that Verizon got the iPad in October. I think that this is Apple’s first series of quiet hints that they will be adding another carrier (Verizon) sometime soon.

A little late if the game if you ask me… It is no doubt that iphone sales will increase substantially as the product is opened up to additional carriers/markets; and I would have gotten an iphone if it was with Verizon sooner. But now that the Droid phones have come so far while being cheaper, they seem to be an equal if not superior product to the iphone. I plan on getting the Droid X in a few weeks.
