Digitimes is reporting that Sony has finalized production roadmap of PlayStation 4 (PS4) that features body movement-based control like Miscrosoft Kinect. Gaming giant’s Taiwan-based partners is likely to begin production at the end of 2011 for launch in 2012.

Sony will have Taiwan-based partners begin production of PlayStation 4 (PS4) featuring body movement-based control like Kinect at the end of 2011 for launch in 2012, according to Taiwan-based component makers.

Even last month, Sony’s executive vice president and chief financial officer Masaru Kato indirectly confirmed that Sony is working on the PS4 console during a conference call to investors when asked about increased R&D costs.

“This is a platform business, so for the future platform – when we’ll be introducing what product I cannot discuss that – but our development work is already under way, so the costs are incurred there.”

However, in a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal , Kato denied that he was specifically referring to the PS4, saying “Some people misread what I said.”

Foxconn and Pegatron Technology will be assembling Sony PS4 for a shipment volume of at least 20 million units in 2012, the report added. via [Digitimes]
