Reverse Engineering: Android for iPhone 3G, Get it now!

by Jeffry on May 21, 2010

Great piece of Reverse Engineering! iPhone Hacker David Wang aka planetbeing earlier ported Android OS on iPhone 3G which was found to be running flawlessly on Apple’s hardware. The hacker has now fixed small glitches and has released the binaries for download accompanying few bugs and performance issues. You will now be able to use all android features on your iPhone 3G except power-management functions as fully charged iPhone 3G riding on Android OS might last for only an hour or so.

Earlier, he was able to boot Google’s Android operating system on iPhone 2G and posted picture of an iPhone 3G booting into a BusyBox / Buildroot shell and later posted a video that demonstrated iPhone 3G running android with multitouch support. Since then, we are following him with great interest since the idea of porting the Android OS on iPhone 3G has come out last week.

As mentioned earlier, the goal of this port is to offer a viable alternative in terms of OS to iPhone users. It is based on Open iBoot, a method developed by Planetbeing to allow a dual boot on the iPhone: when you start the iPhone you will be prompted to select the operating system of your choice, either Android OS or iPhone OS.

David woes that, it is impossible for any bug to brick or disable your iPhone permanently. You must then give it one try at least! Isn’t? Well, David has published detailed how-to guide on How to Install Android on Your iPhone. Let us know the results once you port android OS onto your iPhone 3G.

Although the project is continuing successfully, I think that Android OS will never have the same stability of the native operating system of the iPhone. Share your opinions!
