ProSwitcher: Free Open Source Multitasking app for jailbroken iPhones

ProSwitcher 0.7.3 beta¸ a palm pre like multitasking app has now been made available for free download for jailbroken iPhones devices. ProSwitcher lets you switch between applications running in background in a beautiful Palm Pre style cover flow-like mode. It is similar to MultiFl0w but is said to be much easier, faster, and more intuitive and uses vey less memory.

The ProSwitcher multitasking app for iPhone uses libactivator library and lets you select from a number of gestures such as flick to close, swipe to scroll, tap to open. Proswitcher displays applications that are running in background in a sleek interface with the thumbnails of the applications and allows you to scroll left and right between them for quick switching. You just need to swipe through the background applications and then tap (or double-tap) on the thumbnail to switch to that application.

ProSwitcher’s configuration screen allows you to customize to use the iPhone apps. For example, you can easily disable Application Title or disallow the app to show default apps. ProSwitcher 0.7.3 beta works better than Multifl0w but still does not replace mQuickdo. This iPhone multitasking app can only be accessed from home screen whereas mQuickDo’s app switching can be accessed anywhere.

Backgrounder is yet another free jailbreak app that allows you to open multiple applications simultaneously and keeps track of open apps using badges. But it is a basic multitasking tool and is not as powerful as ProSwitcher.

Steps to Install ProSwitcher on jailbroken iPhone firmware

Step 1 - Start ‘Cydia’ on your iPhone springboard.
Step 2 - Select ‘Manage’ tab at the bottom of your iPhone screen and then select ‘Sources’.
Step 3 - Select ‘Edit’ and then select ‘Add’. Now enter a url source. Type ‘http://booleanmagic.com/repo’ and select on ‘Add Source’. Once Cydia has added the source click on ‘Return to Cydia’ button.
Step 4 – Once the installation is completed. Search for “ProSwitcher” in Cydia and install it.
