Recently, we posted step by step guide to Jailbreak iPhone OS 4.0 Firmware with Redsn0w 0.9.5. After jailbreaking you might want to use iPhone 4.0 multitasking on your iPhone 3G. Earlier we posted a hack to enable multitasking on iPhone 4.0 beta1 firmware. But you may follow the step-by-step guide with screenshots to enable multitasking and “Background in Native Homescreen” on iPhone 3G Firmware 4.0 beta1.

Steps to Enable Multitasking and Background in Homescreen
Step #1 Jailbreak iPhone 3G firmware 4.0Beta1 using redsn0w 0.9.5. Guide posted here.
Step #2 After installing Ifil from Cydia, open it and head to the directory:
/System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/

Step #3 Find and open the file N82AP.plist
Step #4 Click on Edit and mark the position the screen. Refer Screenshot below.

Step #5 Add the following line. Do not forget to refer the screenshot. You can easily identify the change from the screenshot in step #4.
<key>multitasking</key> <key> multitasking </ key>
<true/> <true/>
<key>homescreen-wallpaper</key> <key>-homescreen wallpaper </ key>
<true/> <true/>

Step #6 Then click Save and then Finish
Step #7 At this point you can reboot the iPhone to activate both functions.

Voila! You have successfully enabled Multitasking and “Background in Homescreen” on iPhone Firmware 4.0 beta1.
It is important to note that multitasking on iPhone 3G might be sluggish and may not be able to handle the workload, as the amount of RAM these devices packed is 128MB only, just half of the third-generation iPhones.
If you want to downgrade to iPhone 3.1.3 firmware from iPhone 4.0 beta1 then follow our detailed guide listed here.
