Geohot bids Goodbye to iPhone 4 Jailbreak, assert Image Posted was FAKE!

Infamous iPhone hacker Geohot earlier posted teaser image showing Cydia running on a Jailbroken iPhone 4. But to my utter surprise, today Geohot admits that the image posted was completely fake and says that he is not going to release iPhone jailbreak and unlock tool in near future. Bummer! He said:

Sorry, this post was probably a bad idea. Next time I won’t say anything. I miss when this blog was actually about technical things(I’ve been reacting too much to the feedback, which led it to the place it’s in now). I didn’t fully realize most of the current scene don’t care unless they are getting something. Now I do. It’s late tonight, I’ll think about what to do about this in the morning.
The real reason behind no release isn’t technical. It’s just that it will never stop, after blackra1n, people demand unlock, after blacksn0w, people demand untethered. I miss the days when jailbreaking and unlocking were difficult, it attracted a much higher caliber crowd.

Also, to the haters, the picture is quite obviously fake :D

We all know that Geohot has the skills and calibre to jailbreak and unlock iPhone 4 in no time but it seems that he wants to move on to capitalize his skills in other challenging projects. We wish him good Luck for his future endeavours.

I am not saying that his ego didn't get in the way, but I honestly believe that is real. Compare that image of the Cydia home screen to the one that Comex showed. They do show the same hi res graphics (pay attention to the “new” badge. There are differences, which he could have photoshopped, but all that for a joke? Seems like it would be easier to just use the screen shot comex posted without going thru that. With time and maturity Geohot may return to the jailbreak community. It is a shame to waste that kind of knowledge. People would pay a few bucks for it and it cold keep some money in his pocket. He complained about release dates etc… If I were him I would have kept the blog closed once there was talk about a new jailbreak and make my twitter acount private until i released it. Then open it up and release software never having had to listen to anyone talk about a release date.
