Geohot Enters Windows Phone 7 Jailbreaking Scene !

by Jeffry on January 18, 2011

Geohot has finally decided to enter into Windows Phone 7 jailbreaking scene after finding that unlike Sony and Apple, the members of the Windows Phone 7 team have amicable attitude towards hackers. Geohot updated his blog saying;

Windows 7 Jailbreak

perhaps a more appropriate way to deal with jailbreakers
I’m going out to buy a Windows 7 phone

Few months back, Rafael Rivera, Long Zheng and Chris Walsh, developed ChevronWP7 tool, which allows you to jailbreak and unlock Windows Phone 7 for application side-loading without having to pay $99 per year for a WP7 marketplace account. All three developers were then invited at Redmond to discuss freely about the potential exploits still existing in OS with WP7 dev experience director Brandon Watson. Both hackers and WP7 developers discussed the homebrew potentials of Windows Phone 7 and ways for stronger protection of WP7 developer intellectual property (IP) on the platform. Eventually, hackers were presented with the oversized T-shirt which reads – “I was the first to jailbreak Windows Phone 7, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt”

Unlike Apple’s Steve Jobs and Sony’s Howard Stringer, Microsoft is taking a friendly approach to fix the exploits existing in Windows Phone 7 OS. Whilst, Sony took stern action and filed a Lawsuit against Geohot. To see Microsoft putting that type of effort to work with developers instead of limiting them will help the platform grow more rapidly and reward the developers for their efforts. Which approach is better? You decide!! I will go with Windows Phone 7 team. What about you?

[Update 1]: (Via RedmondPie) Brandon Watson, Director of Windows Phone 7 tweeted an open message to Geohot, that read:

Geohot Windows Phone 7
