Chrome OS Ported to iPad Successfully, Supports Flash!

by Jeffry on September 29, 2010

17 year old Hacker Hexxeh has successfully ported Chromium OS on the iPad and has posted an image on his blog showing Chromium OS (the open source version of Chrome OS) running on iPad. Unfortunately, no further description, video or picture has been published. Developer Hexxeh is well known in the chrome community and even published his own Chromium builds. We may assume that it is not a fake one.
Install Chrome Browser on iPad
Those who don’t know Chromium OS is a lightweight, lightning-fast operating system for your netbook, laptop or even desktop. With the familiar environment of Chromium/Chrome, the entire web is at your fingertips in seconds. HTML5 and Flash are fully supported, allowing you to enjoy the very best that the web has to offer.
Most likely you need to jailbreak your iPad before installing Chromium OS. I think the idea and the developments in this direction, however, very exciting and await with interest further details. What do you think of Chrome and Chromium OS on the iPad? Would you like to install an alternative operating system on the Apple Tablet?

Once the hacker publishes more detail, we will be posting a guide on how to install Google Chrome OS on Apple iPad. For all updates on Chromium OS on iPad tablet, please follow us on Twitter or become a Facebook fan. You may also like to check out more on reverse engineering:

If you are going to post a comment of criticism, then make sure you know what you are talking about. Firstly, this is entirely possible because ChromiumOS is open-source so porting it/compiling it to run on the iPad is not irrational (as opposed to Snow Leopard because it is near impossible to get the source unless you are in with Apple, or maybe if you are a developer which means you pay Apple $100 a year to work for them… lol), second, Hexxeh is known for these types of accomplishments, third, take a look at Androidx86, Android runs on an ARM processor, but it has been ported to run and install on an x86 platform (built from source i.e. it’s open source). Again if you don’t know what the OP was even talking about, which clearly everyone before me possibly excluding Jeff, then don’t make assumptions (GOLDEN RULE #2: ASSUME MAKES AN ASS OUT OF U AND ME). Just because you can’t do it doesn’t mean it can’t be done.
