Wavesecure, which is free antitheft and mobile security software to track lost Android devices, published an article on their official blog covering the instructions of rooting your Android phone and the steps required to install WaveSecure as a system application. Chee Wee of Wavesecure have cited enough good reasons to root android device.

- WaveSecure can be made hard reset proof! This means you can make WaveSecure a part of your “system” and a simple factory reset of the phone will not remove it. It will, however, erase all WaveSecure settings from the phone. For our rooted users we have modified WaveSecure to fetch these settings from the server automatically. This way, if you have set your phone to be locked, it will even survive a factory reset.
- WaveSecure has the ability to start GPS automatically even if it has been switched off. Network location can be inaccurate with error of up to 2 km. GPS lets WaveSecure pin point the location of your phone more accurately. Of course, the phone will need to get a GPS fix for it to work
Rooting Android phone also provides full access to its system files allowing you to modify the phone’s firmware, WiFi tethering over Bluetooth, Move and run apps from the memory card and spruce up your handset by installing third party apps, themes and custom ROMs.
The blog also lays down steps for installing WaveSecure as a system application on your phone. If you have WaveSecure installed previously, just remove it.
- Install a recovery image like Amon RA or ClockworkMod on your phone which can install update.zip files.
- Download the latest WaveSecure in the form of update.zip from here.
- Put the update.zip file on the memory card of your phone
- Restart the phone into the recovery console
- Install update.zip
Alternatively, you may use ADB shell
- Download the WaveSecure apk: Go to m.wavesecure.com on your phone and click on “Trouble downloading? Click here”. This will download the latest apk to your memory card.

- Mount the system partition for writing.

adb push wavesecure.apk /system/app - This pushes the apk into the /system/app folder of your phone and the Android system will automatically installs the application.
