I think that I am in a wait-and-hold loop. I have an iPod Tough 2G MC running on iOS 4.1. I installed this version of OS when I first got my iPod, to support running a particular application, and before I thought about jailbreaking it. I downloaded redsn0w_win_0.9.5b5-3, but that did not like the IPSW file that I had downloaded. It was called “iPod2,1_4.0_8A293_Restore.ipsw”. May be my problem there was that it was not an iOS 4.1 ipsw. I couldn’t find one of those on the web. The newer version of redsn0w only works on MACs now. The info from yours, and several other sites, makes me nervous about using sn0wbreeze 2.0.1 or 2.0.2 for my device. Any advise on this, with full installation instructions for my iPod touch, would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, I’m a little bit of a noob at this. I was unaware of this not working on ios 4.0.2. Do I have to down grade back to the original ios on my ipod (which was 3.0)? And if so, is there a way to get it back up to ios 4.0.1?

I figured it out…. with an iPhone 3GS jailbroken with BlackRa1n on IOS 3.12 I did the following. Run iTunes on PC, sync up iPhone. Install iTunes 9.21. Resync iPhone with iTunes (probably not needed but did anyway). Installed IOS 4.01 in iPhone. You will lose ALL of your apps that are not Apple approved (ie Cydia apps as well as Cydia). From iPhone, went to jailbreakme.com and let it do its thing. No problems, it installed Cydia. I then went back and reinstalled the apps I wanted back on my iPhone. Good luck to all!
