Recover Deleted Photos after Spirit Jailbreak on Mac OS

Spirit Jailbreak is the most sought jailbreak Tool till date that jailbreaks your iPhone, iPod touch 3.1.2 / 3.1.3 and iPad on 3.2 within minutes. Unfortunately, the first version of Spirit software carried photo deletion bug. After jailbreaking with spirit tool, all the photos stored on the iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad were deleted automatically. Although, the photo deletion bug in spirit was lately fixed by Comex.

While jailbreaking with spirit, if you have also lost all your photos, then follow our step by step guide to restore the deleted photos quickly after spirit jailbreak.

What do we need?

  1. OpenSSH – Download OpenSSH via Cydia on your iPhone. Install it and reboot your iPhone.
  2. iPhone Backup Extractor (Download for Mac from here)
  3. You will now download software to access your iPhone via SSH. Mac users can use Cyberduck. Enter the following details to login to your iPhone:
  • Server: The IP address of your iPad. Settings –> WiFi –> <Your Network Name>
  • Username: root
  • Password: alpine
  • Protocol: SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol)

Guide to recover lost photos / deleted after Spirit Jailbreak on Mac OS

Step 1: Download iPhone Backup. Extract it and run it.

Step 2: Click on “Read Backups” and select the most recent backup made before jailbreaking your iPhone with Spirit. Backups are dated, so it’s easy to choose the correct one).

Step 3: Once you select the backup file, click “Choose” and select “iPhone OS Files”.

Step 4: Click “Extract” and choose the folder to take the backup.

Step 5: Once you click on “Choose”, wait for few minutes.

Step 6: Once the process is completed, you will see a folder called “iPhone OS Files” in the path you selected in step 4. Open the folder and then navigate to /Media/DCIM/ and you will find all of you deleted pictures taken by the iPhone.

Step 7: Enable the SSH on the iPhone and open CyberDuck port within the directory /User/Media/.

Step 8: Simply drag the DCIM folder (extracted in Step 6) to the directory / User/ Media/iPhone via CyberDuck and agree to overwrite the same.

Step 9: Once CyberDuck has finished copying the content, you will be able to see all the pictures taken by iPhone.

    Awful bug, even after restoring my pictures the order of the photos is corrupted and the thumbnails are all gone. Now the movie camera no longer works. Blackra1n, how I miss thee.

    Ahe wonderful you can try Stellar Phoenix Macintosh to recover your lost photographs from hard drives, memory cards, memory sticks, iPods and digital cameras. Loss of pictures from any of the above storage area primarily occurs due to human errors, virus infection.
