How to Root Motorola CLIQ Running on Android

Motorola CLIQ Android phone has been rooted for full access to its system files. The exploit provides a /system/bin/su from AOSP (that is, you can only use it from adb shell). Once you get the full root access to the file system, you can modify the phone’s firmware and install third party apps, themes and custom ROMs. Once Motorol CLIQ is rooted, you can also tether your Android device to your computer to gain internet access. Steps for rooting Motorola CLIQ on Android

Step 1. Download Drivers from Motorola.com
Motorola 4.2.0 Driver with MotoConnect (for 32-bit versions of Windows®)
Motorola 4.2.0 Driver with MotoConnect (for 64-bit versions of Windows®)

Step 2. Download Google RSD-Lite 4.5.7 and install it

Step 3. Download my shx file here at androidspin.com and unzip it.

Make sure to use the SHA1 checksum shown to verify file integrity.

Step 4. After you have installed the drivers and RSD Lite. Run RSD-Lite and select the shx file you unzipped, select the phone and cliq start. Your phone should reboot into bootloader and apply the flash. It will then reboot again into your SetupWizard.

Step 5. Once in you’ll need to run the following from adb

adb remount
adb shell chmod 4755 /system/bin/su

To fix Superuser, Download, extract and then run the .sh or the .bat.. Good to go

NOTE: cyanogen roms WILL NOT RUN on your phone yet. DO NOT TRY TO FLASH G1 roms, hero roms, etc yet. This does not make your phone ready to flash update.zips I will be creating custom ROM’s with improvements upon 1.5 and hopefully a 2.1 port.
