The suspense on Sprint’s HTC EVO 4G price and release date was finally broken by Sprint CEO Dan Hesse who announced 4th June to be the final release date of America’s first 4G smartphone “HTC EVO 4G” in an event in New York on Wednesday eve as claimed by an Android certification engineer for Sprint earlier.

HTC EVO 4G will be available in all Sprint retail channels and national retail partners, RadioShack, Best Buy and Wal-Mart. As reported earlier the snapdragon powered beast will be retailing for $199 with 2 year service contract after a $100 mail-in-rebate (excluding tax). We already know that Sprint’s EVO 4G is the most robust Android handset to date and as powerful as the Droid Incredible but its 4G WiFi hotspot capability makes it most powerful android. 4G WiFi hotspot capability will be available as a top-up on base plan with extra $29.99 per month (pricing excludes surcharges and taxes), a price that would include access to the EVO’s 8-device WiFi hotspot capability and won’t come standard with existing EV-DO plans.
The Overdrive Mobile Hotspot by Sierra Wireless allows you to connect up to five WiFi enabled devices simultaneously including laptops, smartphones, gaming devices and cameras through a single WiFi connection with speed up to 10 times faster than today’s 3G, giving HTC EVO 4G the fastest data speeds of any U.S. wireless device available today. With such a lightning speed, sprint 4G users can easily download and upload music, pictures, files, or videos within seconds and watch streaming video on the go (buffering is passe now).
Initially, EVO 4G will be up for grab in 32 cities in US that supports Sprint’s 4G network and by the end of this year 18 more cities would be added subsequently. It is important to note that EVO 4G supports both 3G and 4G and whenever you enter into 3G enabled city, your smartphone will be automatically switch to 3G network without any hassle.
Sprint provides free Guarantee with which customers can experience the benefits of HTC EVO 4G for as many as 30 days and if not satisfied, may return the device within 30 days. All the activation fees and the device purchase cost will be refunded back to the customer, waiving off both the early termination and restocking fees. Customers will even receive a full refund for the monthly service plan charges incurred while adopting EVO 4G.
Sprint HTC EVO 4G Features
- Simultaneous voice and data capability allowing you to surf web and make calls in parallel. In other phones both operations can not be done simultaneously but instead in tandem.
- Integrated Google Goggles allow you to search without writing. Just take the pictures in order to search everything from books, DVDs and barcodes to landmarks, logos, and artwork and wine labels.
- Snapdragon powered evo 4g is sporting two cameras, 8.0 megapixel auto-focus camera with HD-capable video camcorder and a forward-facing 1.3 megapixel camera. Say, goodnight to your children when you are away on a business trip!
- Integrated HD video capture allows you to capture and share live video via the Qik.
- Watch video with the device on an HDTV via an HDMI cable.
Bundled with all the HTC Sense features, HTC EVO 4G will add some new features, including Friend Stream, a social media aggregator for Facebook and Twitter into one organized flow of updates, interactive widgets, and a “polite” ringer, which quiets the ringing phone once lifted up. The phone is running Android 2.1 operating system, and more than 35,000 apps will be available for the device.
Technical specification wise, HTC EVO 4G features adobe flash supported Android OS 2.1, 480 x 800 4.3-inch TFT LCD display with QSD8650 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, 1GB of storage, and 512MB of RAM, 8.0 MP auto-focus camera, HD video capture, HDMI output, Mobile Hotspot capability and more.
Sprint finally, did not took any chance and released HTC EVO 4G, before Apple’s next generation iPhone 4G comes into market, which is speculated to go on sale on June 7th at WWDC or at Yerba Buena Center for Arts by the Moscone Center in San Francisco which apple has booked for June 22nd.
Ostensibly, Sprint is concentrating more on EVO 4G offerings and wants to make it as big as iPhone. Recently, Sprint even nixed Nexus one in favor of HTC EVO 4G as they might not believe in “Cannibalization”.
