HTC EVO 4G VS iPhone 4G/HD, The Fight Begins!

by Jeffry on May 29, 2010

Fring software has been updated to Fring 2.1 for Android allowing you to make video calls to your Skype contacts on their computers or other devices with front facing cameras like HTC EVO 4G. It is being reported that that app works well but the video quality fails to impress as compared to a significantly-compressed YouTube video. However, we are sure that Fring would add ‘OOH-LA-LA’ tag with better quality in upcoming releases for Android phones.

Watch the video below where the reporter made a test call to the wife and kid for video chat. The video clearly shows that it works best in landscape mode and you get the other person’s video on the left and a video of yourself on the right.

Sprint earlier demonstrated the HTC EVO 4G with this functionality at their launch event, with Qik which comes with a premium of $4.99 per month but disabled the video conferencing feature in Qik software for the EVO 4G units that were given out at Google I/O event. Rumorologists suggests that Apple’s new iPhone 4/HD will be sporting front-facing cameras and Video iChat but may not be work as good as on EVO 4G. But why? The reason is simple! EVO 4G is having much bigger screen and video chatting on bigger screen is always great. Isn’t? It seems that the fight between HTC EVO 4G and iPhone 4G has begin. Waiting to see the punch from Steve Jobs after he unveils iPhone 4G at WWDC which begins on June 7th!

    Hello everyone,

I really like reading everyone’s posts and bringing each perspective to life.

I recently switched from iPhone 3Gs to HTC Evo, the very day EVO came out.

Let me first say, I absolutely love iPhone and have had both the iPhone 3g & 3gs. I am also a big Macintosh & Linux fan at home and I work with linux professionally at work.

Today I was able to look at the new IPhone and it is a VERY SEXY phone. So many say, “Why move away from the iPhone, when it has everything you can possibly need?”.

The answer simply is the network. I have been an Cingular & AT&T user for years and have leveraged many 3G phones introduced by HTC that were Windows powered.

AT&T had a great voice and packet network UNTIL iPhone came to town. Now AT&T’s network here in St. Louis and other nearby areas has become un-reliable (at best). The packet network was great, but now latency and consistant packet speed has taken a “turn for the worse”.

I want reliability in a phone service.

Now to the EVO and compared with my experience with IPhone 3GS and very little experience with the new 4th generation IPhone device.

The iPhone beats the EVO in regards to software available on the iTunes store vs the Android Market. There is NO COMPARISON in regards to “good” software on the Android Market compared to iPhone software.

In regards to performance, I believe the EVO is the winner.

And in regards to dropped calls and network experience, Sprint is the winner in St. Louis area.

Once better software is introduced to the Android Market, I believe that the HTC Evo will be better than iPhone.

I believe that Apple killed AT&T.

Megapixel is a myth, it doesn't matter whether you have 8 megapixel camera in your Evo or u have 5 megapixel camera in your iphone 4g. As far i have seen the iphone 3gs' 2 megapixel camera gave many 5-6 megapixel caremars a run for their money. It is the lens and photo capturing software that matters, and for that as of now apple has a much more superior technology than any of you htc lovers will claim your htc has. It is fact and harsh. Lets face it iphone was revolution. All you EVO love bees your HTC is a follower not innovator.

Who cares whose on first and who is on second. EVO hit the homerun.

I got Evo last week, in my view its the best phone in market now. It beats iphone 3g many ways. Lets see the real competition with iphone 4g starting this week.

AT&T will never win the battle vs sprint, sprint has cheaper plans, the i phone can't win vs the EVO even if the price falls, the EVO is a wireless hot spot for up 8 devices and it's still cheaper than the i phone, i love sprint, i love the EVO!!!

The IPhone 4G product can't compete since:

      A) It isn't a 4G phone. Apple is using a play on words calling the phone “4G”. It's a 4th generation IPhone and isn't a true 4G phone

      B) AT&T service is absolute garbage. The only other service close to offering 4G service, after Sprint, is Verizon.

      • bbushvt

It isn't the iPhone 4G its the iPhone 4. Your B) is spot on though.

What you are saying is the opposite of common sense, …really , you have a problem paying $10 more on the already cheap plan (most are opting for simply everything @ 69.99+10=79.99), but would rather pay >$100 for the At&T, boy talk about shooting your left foot to spite the right…good logic buddy. I have the, been playing on it all day, and the battery held up great

I want to start off by saying a) that I am not at all an Apple Fanboi; I'm a PC-guy till the day I die…and b) that I DEEPLY wanted this phone. DEEPLY. With all that is within me. It's so sexy, so awesome, so capable! I was willing to trade in my iPhone 3GS, the only Apple device I've ever owned – and the single greatest piece of technology that I've ever owned for that matter – for the HTC Evo. I am also still in contract with AT&T and so I would have terminated early and paid the fine just to switch to Sprint so I could have this phone. I absolutely love my iPhone – it's familiar to me, easy to operate, and fun. But I hate AT&T. I want to see Flash display in the Safari browser. I want to be able to customize my iPhone background. Push notification constantly fails. Dropped calls. I despise the bottleneck of Apple & iTunes. I hate the lack of compatibility it has sometimes with my PC.But after reading all of the reviews, I am sorry to say that I will not be getting this beautifully gorgeous phone. And here's why: Horrible battery life. MicroSD card failures. Can't talk and surf at the same time on Sprint (only on 4G, not on 3G). Gotta pay an extra $10 for something that I might not even use because it will kill the battery and might be spotty connectivity at best. Can't install apps to the MicroSD card. A camera lens that the phone actually sits on, resulting potentially in a scratched-up lens.I'm super bummed. I mean, it's only a phone, right? But still: Why didn't both HTC and Apple really think of these things? Why not put absolutely everything in the phone that people will need, and MAKE IT RIGHT, so there are no regrets on any side? Sprint: Why make a 4G network and then charge a surplus on it? What's with not providing protection for the camera lens so that I can actually ditch an extra device and use the camera on this phone? Apple: lose the ego and incorporate Flash. AT&T: Fix your network so calls don't drop.As a followup, I certainly will not be upgrading my iPhone 3GS now that I see that the iPhone 4G screen is smaller…what a stupid move by Apple. When will people get it right???

Get the phone for yourself & and see how it work, don't listen to what people say, just like people review movies and give it a thumbs down, and then you see the movie and it's a great movie that's how phones are, some people like them other will not choose for yourself not someone else

      • Raving for Evo

people aren't going to run out and grab two phones to see which one they like. That's the whole point of reviews. Just saying

Missed half if not more of the rumored iPhone 4g options to come Check out recent customer sat surveys done htc was near bottom where apple was at top. It's not as much about a phones list of options as much as it is how well the manufacture takes care of you after the fact. Android software is taking the old school Microsoft approach saturating any phone they can get on which will eventually lead to problems like windows software.

English is clearly not your first language.
