iOS 5 beta 2 Blocks GEVEY SIM for iPhone 4 Unlock

by Jeffry on June 25, 2011

Apple has finally blocked the GEVEY SIM, which was used to unlock iPhone 4 on firmware between iOS 4.1 to iOS 5 beta 1 on baseband 01.59.00, 02.10.04, 03.10.0104.10.01 and 04.11.04. The confirmation came from iOS hacker Will Strafac (via deefilippi). We are receiving more confirmation from different sources as well.

[Update 1:] Musclenerd has confirmed that Apple has closed hole used by GEVEY SIM interposer.

Details are still unknown at this time but we think that to prevent fake IMSI from working, Apple might have patched the hole that was being used by this doohikey to force activate the baseband using the emergency dialer. It is still unknown whether GEVEY Ultra will work or not as it does not requires dialing 112 emergency number.
