Earlier at iPhone OS 4.0 event, Apple announced that multitasking would not be supported on the iPhone 3G and second-generation iPod touches. But with a small hack, iPhone 4.0 multitasking can be enabled easily on older generation of iPhone models; including the iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G.

Just a small modification is required in the following lines of code in iPhone OS 4.0 and iPhone hackers like Geohot and iPhone Dev Team are sure to include this little “hack” in their iPhone 4.0 jailbreak tools. Infamous iPhone Dev Team and Geohot have already confirmed that jailbreaking the iPhone OS 4.0 developer beta is already possible.
One of the properties in the capabilities plist of springboard.app (/System/Library/CoreService/SpringBoard.app/N82AP.plist) is MULTITASKING=FALSE. Change that to TRUE. iPhone 4.0 multitasking will be enabled on Unsupported iDevices as well.
It is important to note that multitasking on iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G might be sluggish and may not be able to handle the workload, as the amount of RAM these devices packed is 128MB only, just half of the third-generation iPhones.
