iPhone 4G / HD on Verizon Arriving November?

by Jeffry on May 28, 2010

Analyst Rodman Renshaw Ashok Kumar is claiming that Apple is preparing itself for launching the iPhone 4G on Verizon CDMA network sometime in November possibly and has asked its partners to produce 4 million iPhones a month by September, a 25% increase.

The Mac maker has also told its manufacturing partner Asustek to plan on starting full-scale production of a CDMA version of the iPhone 4G to be available at Verizon as early as November, Kumar says. The report is yet another confirmation of Apple’s long-awaited Verizon iPhone, which still awaits final approval from the two companies that have not always seen eye-to-eye.

Kumar further estimates that Apple might exceed a production rate of 40 million for the year, which exceeds most analyst’s expectations including Wall Street. But only possible, if iPhone is made available to multiple major carriers. Wall Street Journal earlier reported that Apple is currently developing two new fourth generation iPhone models, one of which will be compatible with Verizon’s CDMA network, which is scheduled to be released this year.

For several years, AT&T’s growth has come primarily from the iPhone sales. According to Comscore statistical data AT&T has over 43% of all U.S. smart-phone customers, compared with 23% for Verizon. Most of the people in US switched their carrier just because of iPhone. In the fourth quarter of 2009 itself, the AT&T activated about 3.1 million new iPhones.

In past six months Verizon is in talks with Apple to gain access to the iPhone and the iPad, though no official news resulted. However, analysts believe that the exclusivity deal between iPhone and AT&T will come to an end in 2010. Verizon has always shown its interest in the iPhone, but Apple did not develop a CDMA compatible version of iPhone for Verizon to keep its development process simple.

There is one major reason for Apple to provide access to its iPhone 4G. Any guess? Yes you are right! It’s Verizon’s huge customer base. Verizon has over 91 million customers in US and making the iPhone available through Verizon CDMA network could open up a significant new market for Apple helping Apple to nearly double the number of iPhone users in the U.S. There are rumors, that Apple’s next generation iPhone 4G will be made available to Sprint  in addition to AT&T and Verizon carrier!

Apple now wants to imitate Google strategy of rolling out its major smartphone across all major carriers and we think that Steve Jobs would announce the next iPhone 4G HD across major US carriers (Verizon/Sprint/AT&T) at WWDC which begins on June 7th.

Well, rolling out iPhone 4G across major US carriers might play a pivotal role in increasing iPhone 4G sales exponentially. What do you think? Any thoughts?
