iPhone 4G / HD to be Launched on June 7th at WWDC 2010

by Jeffry on April 28, 2010

Today, Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) 2010 was officially announced by Apple scheduled from June 7th to June 11th. Rumors have now grounded that iPhone 4G will be showcased at WWDC and next iPhone 4G is now expected to be unveiled during a keynote address by Steve Jobs, though the device has already been leaked by Gizmodo.

The purported next iPhone 4G / HD has already been extensively reviewed and dismantled by Gizmodo before the official release. Unluckily Gizmodo was only able to review its hardware part as the iPhone 4G was bricked by Apple remotely by mobileMe software. You may read the complete story here.

Possible Features in Next iPhone 4G

  • Front-facing video chat camera
  • Improved regular back-camera (the lens is quite noticeably larger than the iPhone 3GS)
  • Camera flash
  • Micro-SIM instead of standard SIM (like the iPad)
  • Improved display. It’s unclear if it’s the 960×460 display thrown around before – it certainly looks like it, with the “Connect to iTunes” screen displaying much higher resolution than on a 3GS. It is now impossible to discern individual pixels.
  • What looks to be a secondary mic for noise cancellation, at the top, next to the headphone jack
  • Split buttons for volume
  • Power, mute, and volume buttons are all metallic

Wall Street Journal earlier reported that Apple is currently developing two new iPhone models, one of which will be compatible with Verizon’s CDMA network, which is scheduled to be released this year. The new iPhone GSM version would be released this summer while the CDMA model (probably iPhone 4G) for Verizon would not go into production until September 2010. Most likely, GSM version of iPhone will be showcased at WWDC 2010 and will resemble with the one which Gizmodo reviewed in depth earlier.

As much as I was looking forward to purchasing this phone when reviewed on Gizmodo, the trampling on the 1st Amendment by Apple in provoking the search of a First Amendment protected premises means it will be a long time before I buy an Apple product again. I look forward to my first Android phone. I may even go for the EVO on Sprint. Steve Jobs is an admitted criminal with all the black box stuff he used to do with pay phones. You would think he would be sensitive to this. But I guess even Apple is motivated by GREED as any other big business is.
