iPhone 5, Verizon iPhone 4 coming in October?

by Jeffry on July 17, 2010

Watch the slides which were presented by Steve Jobs while addressing the iPhone 4′s attenuation issues during Apple iPhone 4 press conference. Throughout the conference, Steve Jobs maintained that only a small number of users are experiencing a problem and to soothe all infuriated iPhone 4 customers, offered a free case through September 30. Did you notice anything on the slide shown below? No? Watch the circumvented clause carefully again which says - “For every iPhone 4 purchased through September 30″

What happens after the 30 September? The new iPhone 5 or the CDMA version of an iPhone 4 which was earlier reported to arrive in January next year by Bloomberg.

During Q&A session, one of the reporters asked in reference to the free bumpers: On the September 30th date, is that to let people know that you’ll have to buy a case? Steve replied: “We will re-examine this in September and decide whether to keep going, or maybe we will have a better idea.”

A gain a question from Bloomberg as to “Why Sept. 30 for case limit?” and Jobs simply reaffirms that “We just are going to wait and see; maybe we’ll have a better idea.”

Another question was put to Steve Jobs asking if the bumper offer extend outside of the US and beyond September 30th? Steve replied, yes, we’ll evaluate!

What can be the “better idea”? Steve must have decided by now! He does not have much time to think over! Isn’t? Can we expect iPhone 5 or a Verizon iPhone 4 or a same insulated iPhone 4 in October?

Ostensibly, some rumors surfaced few days back that Apple has already started shipping iPhone 4 with non-conductive coating which fixes antenna issue. If we believe on those rumors then, apparently, Apple found flaw in the design which they have never accepted so far. But, during iPhone 4 press conference, just before closing the presentation, Steve quoted:

“We do this because we love our users, and if we screw up, we pick ourselves up and we try harder. And when we succeed, they reward us by staying our users. We take this really personally. Maybe we should have a wall of PR people keeping us away from this stuff, but we don’t, we take it really personally. So we’ve worked the last 22 days on this trying to solve the problem. And we think we’ve gotten to the heart of the problem.”

If the antennagate issues persists then Apple might take a call to introduce new iPhone 4 design by October to us. Most likely, a new iPhone 4, that might ship with non-conductive coating. We may expect Verizon iPhone 4 or iPhone 5 announcement as well.

Steve Jobs knows very well that iPhone 4 without a phone (due to frequent call drops) is just a multimedia device where you can only play with apps and to maintain credibility among customers, he has to provide full proof solution for which he has set a deadline of September 30th for himself.

What do you think about Steve Jobs “better idea”? Is it iPhone 5, or a CDMA iPhone 4 on Verizon or an iPhone 4 coated with non-conductive coating? Let us know in the comments!

This article didn't even note the biggest clue to a CDMA version of the iPhone. During Q/A Jobs said that they were had not only a GSM network for testing the iPhone but a CDMA network also. If Jobs had any hopes of keeping a Verizon iPhone secret, that ruined his agenda. But that's just my two cents.

uh. Nice interpretation (read: wishful thinking). How do you think they test or replicate issues on competitors' phones like they did during the press conference? The Eris and the Tour both run on CDMA…….

The built a vastly expensive CDMA cell tower to replicate cell phone issues since the launch of iPhone 4? No. It could be a number of things. It could be for the employees on Apples campus that have Verizon phones. It could be for the design of a CDMA/LTE iPhone..

uh. Not accurate. It's coming and it will be the beginning of 2011. Reports from reputable sites, the manufacturing plant and the corporate sales guys at Apple, while not committing to anything have given the indication that something is happening at the end of the year. Not to mention AT&T's restructured early termination fees and offering people a six month early upgrade to the iPhone 4 which coincides with the beginning of the year.

The only thing that makes sense here is pretty much the fact that he's probably implying that beyond September 30th, any iPhone 4 that's sold should have no antenna problems.

Also, iPhone 5? Seriously? Don't you realize by now that a new or updated iPhone is released once every year around June?

    …Are you kidding me.

He was just saying. Every iPhone 4 that's purchased through September 30. Meaning, they're giving away free bumpers for a limited time, ONLY for iphone 4 users.
