iPhone to Launch on T-Mobile USA in Q3 Fall!

by Jeffry on July 22, 2010

This in indeed HUGE for T-Mobile users in US! Finally, Apple’s next generation iPhone 4 might be made available to T-Mobile. There are bells ringing around the web that T-Mobile in USA might be bestowed with iPhone 4 no later than the Q3 of 2010. If the rumors turns out to be legit then this would be the first time in US that iPhone will be made available across multiple carriers apart from AT&T. Of course! After the AT&T exclusivity ends.

AT&T’s exclusive contract with Apple will expire or not? We still don’t no! But now analysts are predicting that iPhone may land with T-Mobile in the fall instead on Verizon as reported multiple times by analysts. The report quotes a legit and “highly placed” source at T-Mobile, who says the negotiations between Apple and the carrier are in an “advanced stage” and that it’s “80 percent likely” the iPhone will arrive on T-Mobile’s network in the third quarter.

Last month, Kaufman Bros. analyst Shaw Wu, said that T-Mobile has greater probability instead of Verizon wireless as its network wouldn’t require Apple to build a separate iPhone 4 to support it. He further quoted -

“Currently, T-Mobile’s 3G service (UMTS/HSPA) supports 1700 MHz and 2100 MHz frequencies while AT&T supports 850 MHz and 1900 MHz frequencies,” Wu wrote in a note to clients today. “Interestingly, both the new iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS support 3G at the 2100 MHz frequency and, from our understanding, the technical hurdle to support T-Mobile is minor compared to supporting CDMA technology at VZ and Sprint.”

“While the general consensus is around Verizon, which we believe will happen eventually, we continue to believe that T-Mobile is the most likely candidate,” Wu said.

We have already seen Barclays Capital analyst Ben Reitzes and Bank of America, Merrill Lynch analyst Scott Craig claiming that USA might be blessed with CDMA version of iPhone 4 on Verizon no later than the first quarter of 2011 and added that Verizon could sell 9 million iPhones next year retailing for $320. Even Bloomberg recently reported that Verizon Wireless will start selling Apple iPhone next year in January, ending AT&T exclusive hold on the smartphone in the US.

Few days back it was reported that Pegatron Technology has received CDMA iPhone orders from Apple and they will be shipping CDMA iPhone 4 in the fourth quarter. But the news contradicted with the statement given by John Johnson, a Verizon Wireless spokesperson who confirmed that there is no plan for Verizon to support the Apple mobile devices like iPhone 4 and iPad in the U.S. in a video interview with Beet.TV that took place at the Wall Street Journal’s All Things Digital conference.

Statistically, Verizon is the largest U.S. wireless carrier, with 93 million subscribers and on the other hand T-Mobile has just 34 million. If Apple signs a deal with the Verizon then the iPhone sales would increase two-fold and if iPhone lands-up with T-Mobile, the iPhone sales would increase by a little more than a third.

Apple now wants to imitate Google strategy of rolling out its major smartphone across all major carriers and we think that Steve Jobs will soon announce the next iPhone availability across major US carriers (Verizon/Sprint/AT&T/T-Mobile).

Well, rolling out iPhone across major US carriers might play a pivotal role in increasing iPhone sales significantly. What do you think? Any thought?
