The student who has found the prototype of the new iPhone 4G said that they aimed at Gizmodo only to speed up the search of the actual owner of the lost iPhone 4G. According to sources familiar with the matter, the initial intentions were not to sell the device but to find the actual owner.

It is being reported that the employees of Apple, directed straight to the room of a university student, but found only roommate who knows everything. According to Wired, in addition, the student had no intention to keep it secret, rather shown iPhone 4G to several people, including friends and classmates. The student was later searched through all available means, including various social networks, without any success.

The person with knowledge of all facts said that the decision to sell has come only after a series of failures to track down the “actual” owner of lost iPhone 4g. Finally, Gizmodo, agreed to pay USD$ 5000. The source also said that the $5,000 payment wasn’t strictly a “sale.” Rather, it was an agreement with Gizmodo for an exclusive story. Gizmodo was to help the finder return the phone to its rightful owner, or give it back.

Police is still investigating the case. Stay tuned for more updates! Till then read the complete story on lost iPhone 4G.

I really hope that the story about Gizmodo paying $5,000 for an iPhone nor did it pay $5,000 for an exclusive story. The latter makes less sense, even though it seems that part of the arrangement was to return it to its rightful owner. Why? Why didn't they just contact Apple or the local police? It would have been easier and less troublesome, with the former really appreciative.
