Next iPhone 4G / HD Dismantled and Revealed in Depth

by Brian on April 20, 2010

Apple recently confirmed the purported fourth generation iPhone and sent a formal letter to Gizmodo, requesting them to return their “prototype iPhone 4G” handset. Before returning the fairy iDevice to Apple, Gizmodo dissected the next iPhone 4G  into pieces to further testify the veracity of the device and to unravel certain interesting facts. Let’s have quick snapshot about the internal components of the next generation leaked iPhone 4G.

  1. Gizmodo gets the confirmation that the phone was created by Apple as it is written on some internal components. There are three separate places, inside the case, where APPLE is written prominently.
  2. Larger battery – around 19% than that of iPhone 3GS and takes about 50% of interior space.
  3. The battery is not user-removable. You have to open the case to get at it and it is not so easy.
  4. New base that connects the camera, the connector for the micro-SIM and the volume keys.
  5. The position of the Logic Board is different, but unfortunately, everything remains a secret because the chips are not branded and logic board is completely sealed by Apple.
  6. Unable to locate an A4 processor like in iPad.
  7. The back of the screen (on the inside) is a shiny mirror prone to scratches.
  8. Around 40-50 screws inside the phone, located at various angles.
  9. Also see, features that are new and changed in iPhone 4G with respect to iPhone 3GS.

Gizmodo found many parts, hidden under the metal sheath but did not disassemble the phone further as it could have damaged the iPhone beyond repair. While Apple critic John Gruber of Daring Fireball suspects that Gizmodo did bricked the handset when tearing it down and tweeted-

$10 says the reason Gizmodo hasn’t published a photo of the display (w/ Connect to iTunes screen) is that they broke it taking it apart.

Despite all these confirmations, the veracity of the iPhone 4G is questionable. We are pretty much sure that the fourth generation iPhone scheduled for June Launch will have lots of changes in design.

OMG That is so classless of Gizmodo. It wasn’t their product in the first place and to tear it apart before returning it to Apple was truly ghetto and classless.

Did Gizmodo break the law by:1) receiving a missing piece of property knowing that it belonged to someone to Apple2) paying for that property knowing that it belonged to someone to Apple3) taking it apart, i.e. damaging the property; it was not theirs in the first place.4) not immediately informing Apple of their possession of the deviceI think Gizmodo and the guy who found it should both be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.I am no Apple fanboy but I respect law where law.

I bet the reason Gizmodo hasn't published a photo of the active display isn't that they broke it, but that Apple shut it down remotely.
