Opera to Unveil its Opera Mini for iPhone Lineup at CTIA

by Chris on March 20, 2010

Opera Software is planning to showcase their popular Opera Mini for the iPhone for free as an App Store application at CTIA 2010 conference in Las Vegas as it expects that Apple will allow Opera Mini onto the iPhone. In order to maintain its market share in the mobile-browser platform, Opera has adopted very aggressive strategy and has been unveiling Opera Mini to high end mobiles, including Google Android and Windows Mobile 5.x and 6.x smartphones.

Opera Mini app for iPhone will support multitasking but will lack support for Adobe Flash for loading rich content from certain Websites. It will also support tabbed browsing, 90 percent data compression, speed dial (Start screen featuring thumbnails of most-visited sites), password manager, Opera link (sync with desktop), download manager as available to recently released beta version of Opera Mini 5 for Android Platform. There will be no change in the user interface of iPhone version of Opera Mini.

According to Co-founder Jon von Tetzschner, Opera wants to distribute the browser to as many iPhone users as possible; offering it as a free download from the Opera site would only make it available to jailbroken iPhones. But Opera has not publicly announced a release date for Opera Mini for the iPhone.

Stay tuned for more news, pictures and videos of Opera Mini for the iPhone.
