Opera Mini web browser was recently approved for iPhone and iPod touch on the App Store and was made available as a free download. It was quite obvious that Opera Mini, with more than 50 million users worldwide (on all mobile platforms) will become the top download app on app store charts very soon. And yes! This free app is the top downloaded in all markets tracked by Apple and has attained top position among all 22 App Store from every country.

Opera submitted its browser to Apple last month and posted a count-up timer to keep track about how much time Apple took to approve or reject Opera’s Mini App. It has also highly speculated that the Opera Mini browser would not be accepted by Apple, as it directly competes with the mobile Safari browser application included with the iPhone and iPod touch.
This is for the first time that any application has become the most downloaded free application in all 22 stores. Congratulations Opera! “Red Alert” for Safari browser and Wake up call for Steve!
