Samsung’s AMOLED Production was not Ample for iPhone 4G/HD

AMOLED display for the next iPhone 4G? Apple had considered initially, but then discarded the idea for a series of technical problems. Apple, in fact, thought that Samsung even working at full capacity for the production of these screens, would be able to produce only 50-60%, compared to the number actually needed. The displays of this kind are increasingly common in devices from Samsung and HTC after having tested but Apple has realized that would not be practical to use in iPhone.

According to Digitimes Research analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. AMOLED screens in a mobile can cost $34 to $38 to make where an IPS (in-plane switching) panel like the rumored 960×640 iPhone capacitive screen display would cost $20. A low-accuracy TN (twisted nematic) panel like most mobile displays costs $10.

It is being reported that Samsung uses PenTile technology developed by Clairvoyante to produce AMOLED, which is less suitable for displaying text. The issue reported in HTC’s Nexus One, Desire and Droid Incredible, where the matrix display has fewer sub-pixels than usual and creates a “dotted” effect that could be harder to read than in a LCD. With Apple quite keen on pushing e-reading businesses, AMOLED may not be the best solution at the moment

Regarding the rumors about the upcoming iPhone 4G, Ming-Chi Kuo to Digitimes says that there will be the CDMA version, but there is still much work to do in this regard and would not be released before 2011. It is being said that CDMA version of iPhone 4G is currently in the relatively early Engineering Verification Test (EVT) stage and would still have to go through the Design Verification Test (DVT) and Process Verification Test (PVT) stages before up for sale.

I have my old iPhone 3G and the Incredible. Sorry, no competition, the Incredible is FAAAAAR easier to read than the iPhones screen (look for your self, WOW). Sorry but “that could be harder to read than in a LCD” just seems like an excuse to use a cheaper product (you don’t notices it until you go back). Also, there IS a “dotted” effect on the screen, BUT, you can only see if when the display is turned off. Even if the screen is on with black, you can’t see it.
