5 Tools to Capture Screenshots in BlackBerry

Do you want to capture actual screenshot of your BlackBerry device? There may be many cases where you will feel to capture screenshot of your Blackberry device. For example, for reporting problem to your Blackberry administrator. Even many bloggers use screenshots to review applications, some people share Blackberry themes via email and other developers wanting to show their application to customers online.

 

Following are the methods using which you can capture screenshots of your Blackberry Mobile for free.

 

JL_Cmder (Official Command line Tool)

JavaLoader Commander is a command line tool provided by BlackBerry. The java utility can be used to easily display Device Info, event log, take a screenshot, wipe the handheld or reset it to factory conditions.

How to use JL_Cmder

  1. Connect your BlackBerry to your computer using USB cable. Make sure that you have already installed BlackBerry Desktop Manager or BlackBerry USB and Modem Drivers.   2. Download JL_Cmder from BlackBerry Forums.
  3. Extract or unzip the executable file on your computer drive.
  4. Double click on the executable file to install it. You will notice an icon on your desktop – Double left click it to run the program, make sure your BlackBerry device is connected properly via USB cable to your computer.
  5. First screen of JavaLoader Commander will prompt you to press any key to continue.
  6. If you lock your BlackBerry with a password then enter the password and press ‘Y’ else press ‘N’ to continue.
  7. You will notice screen. Press ‘3’ for taking screenshot. Before pressing ‘3’, make sure to navigate to the screen for which you want to take the screenshot.
  8. Enter the name for the screenshot file and hit enter. Your screenshot will open up in MS Paint.
  9. By Default the file is stored in BMP format. You can choose to save in any other format in MS Paint.

 

BB Screenshooter (Impressive user Interface and Easy to Navigate)

This screenshot application is created by Oppitronic for capturing static screenshots of BlackBerry. With BB Screenshooter you can capture screenshots of anything that is currently visible on your BlackBerry Display and later save it in jpeg, png or bmp file format which was not possible in BlackBerry’s official tool JL_Cmder.

How to use BB Screenshooter

  1. Make sure that you have already installed BlackBerry Desktop Manager or BlackBerry USB and Modem Drivers. If not, download them from BlackBerry website. Follow the complete guide on BBGeeks about how to install the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  2. Now, Connect your BlackBerry to your computer with USB cable.
  3. BBScreenShooter require the file javaloader.exe from RIM in order to function. It must be in the same folder as the tool or a pop-up window will ask for the path to javaloader.exe. Download Javaloader.exe
  4. Download BBscreenshoter.exe file in the same folder where you have downloaded javaloader in third step.
  5. Double click the executable file to launch BBScreenshooter. Set the filename and location for the screenshot that you will be going to take.
  6. You can also set the frame size around the screenshot. If you do not wish to make frame or border then simple drag the slider to value ‘0’. Specific color can also be set for frame.
  7. On the display you will notice the “[Take Screenshot]” button. Click on this button to take a screenshot of your current BlackBerry display.

BB ScreenStream (Creates series of screen capture, perfect for demos)

BBScreenStream is an advanced version of the BBScreenShooter as discussed above. With this application, you can create a series of screen captures of your BlackBerry device in avi file format.

How to use BB ScreenStream

  1. Connect your BlackBerry to your computer using USB cable. Make sure that you have already installed BlackBerry Desktop Manager or BlackBerry USB and Modem Drivers.   2. BBScreenStream requires file javaloader.exe in order to function. It must be in the same folder as the tool or a pop-up window will ask for the path to javaloader.exe. Download Javaloader.exe
  3. Now download the BBScreenStream.exe file in the same folder where you have downloaded javaloader in second step.
  4. Double click the executable file to launch BBScreenStream.
  5. You will notice a slider at bottom. It basically determines the interval between then screen shots. If you adjust it to 2 seconds then for every two seconds screenshot will be captured. You can adjust the capture speed with the slider (slow ~2s, normal ~1s, fast ~0.5s)
  6. Press the [Play/Stop] button to start or stop capturing the screenshot.Visit

CaptureIT (USB Cable not required)

With CaptureIt you need not to connect your BlackBerry device to the computer for capturing screenshots. The screenshots are saved as a jpeg image file directly to your BlackBerry’s media folder.

How to use CaptureIT

1.       Open m.thetechmogul.com  or CaptureIT OTA (over the air) in your BlackBerry browser and install it as you would any other BlackBerry app.

2.       This will add a “Capture It” option to your BlackBerry menu. Do not Click to open it else you will end up taking the screenshot of application menu your BlackBerry device.

3.       Navigate to Options -> Screen/Keyboard and scroll down to assign a convenience key to the Capture It application.

4.       Exit out of the ‘Options’ menu and now you are ready to capture

SnapScreen (Mac OS Users)

For Mac OS users SnapScreen works best. With this application you need not to connect your BlackBerry to the computer. Just install the application on your Blackberry. The images can be saved in JPG, PNG or BMP file formats. This is a commercial tool with trial. With trial version, you can use the SnapScreen for 3 days or for 30 screenshots.
