Here’s some news bound to excite and reason to rejoice those drooling over the Xperia X10 models 2.1 update. Sony Xperia X10 will be officially upgraded from Android 1.6 to Android 2.1 by the end of this year. This upgrade will cover all the X10 models (which includes X10, X10 mini and X10 mini pro) in the market as per Sony Ericsson’s official blog. The UXP upgrade will be included with more exciting features as listed below:

- Upgrade to Android OS version 2.1
- HD video recording at 720p
- Wireless home connectivity via DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance)
- Productivity fixes in Timescape and Mediascape signature applications they will be even smarter and richer
According to Sony’s blog they will be releasing a smaller update probably next month, before this “UXP upgrade” which will enhance the usability and performance of the Sony Xperia X10 smartphones. There is no information that the smartphone will also be updated for multi touch capability support. The users who are already using the handsets will be able to download and upgrade their handsets to Android 2.1 from Sony Ericsson’s website.
Sony Xperia X10 was the first smartphone by the company to have Android operating system. The handset was released in April 2010 with Android version 1.6 loaded sporting 4 inch touchscreen, 8 megapixel camera with face detection, 1GB of memory (can be upgraded to 16GB), and offers both HSDPA/3G and Wi-Fi connectivity. Though, the launch of Android 2.2 is supposed to be coming this summer. So, upgrading to Android 2.1 by end year seems to be some late or is people will be expected to see integrated Android 2.2 at that time.
