Turn off Sense UI in HTC EVO 4G, Run Stock Android 2.1

by Jeffry McDowell on May 15, 2010

We all know that America’s first 4G smartphone HTC EVO 4G running Sense UI is arriving on 4 June. Don’t you like Sense UI? Worry not! The android phone EVO 4G has an option that many of us have been waiting for. Any guesses? Well, in HTC EVO 4G you can easily turn of the HTC Sense UI and use stock Android 2.1 instead. To do so, you need not to hack your ROM.

To turn-off Sense UI and run the stock Android 2.1 home screen on the Sprint EVO 4G just navigate to Settings > Manage Applications > HTC Sense > Clear Defaults and Force Stop

Done!

Then conceivably one could possibly upgrade 2.1 whenever Froyo 2.2 hits the air while Sense UI is down?

why you want to diconnect Sense UI?

Ummm… that's just changing the launcher app, NOT making it a standard Android 2.1 image or “turning off Sense UI.”

The Sense UI is beautiful, however devices with Sense don’t get updated very fast and easy!

AWESOME news. I was hoping to use the stock UI instead. Thanks!

No. This does not turn off Sense UI. All this does is set the Home app to the default 2.1 launcher. You'll see this if you open Contacts. The Sense version of People is still running. The guys over at XDA dev forums are working on a 2.2 port though. No Sense in that ROM. (No pun intended.)

This person is right; you can even do this on the HTC Hero and use the android interface.

OK, so I just wanted to try this to check out the native interfact (because I'm an X-WinMobile user). I didnt see any difference, and now, my HTC Sense has no defaults.

How do I put this back the way it was?

its not letting me clear defaults all the sudden, could that have to do with the recent update or some shit
