CyanogenMod is a custom ROM, based on Android operating system designed to increase performance over Android-based ROMs released by Google, T-Mobile, or HTC.

How to update CyanogenMod on Android phone with CM Updater
Step #1 Opening your Settings and then scroll down to the Applications section and select it.
Step #2 Mark “check” in the Unknown sources box and then Exit Settings window.
Step #3 Open your Android browser (or, Dolphin browser) and type the URL http://code.google.com/p/cyanogen-updater. On the right side of that page look for the Featured downloads: link. Click the cmupdater_x.x.x.apk link to download the file.
Step #4 After the download process is completed, tap the file to launch the installer.
Step #5 You will notice a prompt to confirm that you want to install CM Updater. Tap the Install button.
Step #6 Once the installation has completed, click the Open button.
Step #7 Click the Check now button to find if there is any new version of CyanogenMod. If any update is found, you will be notified. In the Please select the ROM to download: menu, the latest version of CyanogenMod will be displayed. “anchor” icon means a stable release while “test-tube” icon next to it, means an experimental release. It is strongly advised to use the stable release of CyanogenMod as experimental release might contains some bugs which can turn you crazy.
Step #8 Tap the Download button to download the latest version of CyanogenMod which is around 36MB in size.
Step #9 Once the download has completed, click the Apply Now button to install updated version of CyanogenMod.
Step #10 You will be prompted with a message that says – “You are about to upgrade to CyanogenMOD-x.x.x. If you press Update, the phone will restart itself in recovery mode to apply the update”. Click on the Update button to continue.
Step #11 Click ‘Allow’ button to allow the program to run as root. Make sure to check the Remember box before you click on Allow button. The installation process will begin automatically. Wait for sometime to complete the installation process.
Step #12 Now, select the “[Home+Back] reboot system now” option from the Android system recovery list.
Your phone be rebooted and will start automatically with the latest version of CyanogenMod.
Update #1 Google issued a cease-and-desist letter to CyanogenMod’s chief developer, Steve Kondik that required him to change the way that he distributes updates to his ROM. To update CyanogenMod follow the directions available in this thread.
