Verizon iPhone 4 [CDMA] to Retail at $320 in Q1 2011 – Report

by Jeffry on June 22, 2010

Barclays Capital analyst Ben Reitzes is claiming that USA might be bestowed with CDMA version of iPhone 4 on Verizon no later than the first quarter of 2011 and added that Verizon could sell 9 million iPhones next year. He says checks indicate production of a CDMA-based iPhone is likely to start in calendar Q4 and for delivery in Q1 2011 and would be retailing for $320.

Bank of America, Merrill Lynch analyst Scott Craig thinks on the same line as well. He noted in a research carried out by him that Apple’s move to non-exclusivity with carriers has been “very positive” till now globally and estimates that Verizon could significantly increase iPhone sales by another 8 million from the current estimate of 43.5 million units for FY 2011. Craig further added that CDMA version of iPhone could carry a price tag of $325.

Rumor bells for CDMA version of iPhone 4 is ringing all around the web. Earlier it was reported that Pegatron Technology has received CDMA iPhone orders from Apple and they will be shipping CDMA iPhone 4 in the fourth quarter. But the news contradicts with the statement given by John Johnson, a Verizon Wireless spokesperson who confirmed that there is no plan for Verizon to support the Apple mobile devices like iPhone 4 and iPad in the U.S. in a video interview with Beet.TV that took place at the Wall Street Journal’s All Things Digital conference.

Verizon has over 93 million customers in US and making the iPhone 4 available through Verizon CDMA network could open up a significant new market for Apple helping Apple to nearly double the number of iPhone users in the U.S.

Statistically, Verizon is the largest U.S. wireless carrier, with 93 million subscribers and on the other hand T-Mobile has just 34 million. If Apple signs a deal with the Verizon then the iPhone 4 sales would increase exponentially (nearly doubled) and if iPhone 4 lands-up with T-Mobile, the iPhone 4 sales would increase by a little more than a third.

Apple now wants to imitate Google strategy of rolling out its major smartphone across all major carriers and we think that Steve Jobs will soon announce the next iPhone 4 availability across major US carriers (Verizon/Sprint/AT&T/T-Mobile).

Well, rolling out iPhone 4 across major US carriers might play a pivotal role in increasing iPhone 4 sales exponentially. What do you think? Any thoughts?

While I am one of the Verizon customers who would like to see the CDMA iPhone, I would also like to see tech commentators who know a little math. Exponential does not mean ” a lot”, it means raising to a power (e.g. to square a number is to raise it to the power of 2).

“Verizon could exponentially increase iPhone sales by another 8 million from the current estimate of 43.5 million units for FY 2011.”
    This is not exponential growth.

“…helping Apple to nearly double the number of iPhone users in the U.S.” Doubling is multiplying by two(not exponential), as opposed to raising to the power of 2(exponential).

I think my math rant was phrased a bit harshly (is that a word; let the English Majors come after me now).

What if the exponent were a fraction? They don't always have to be whole numbers.

Actually, what’s common with all of these hype is it makes people go excited. But falling too fast ain’t fun you know? Probably, the Tmobile iPhone 4 would be more probable.

CDMA iPhone 4’s SIM card is bind to the phone and the wire is redesigned. i don’t think that will be more convenient.
