XPERIA X10 to get Android 2.2 Froyo Blessing Soon?

by Antony on July 1, 2010

Xperia X10 customers rejoice! You will soon be getting Android 2.2 Froyo OTA (over-the-air) update in the coming weeks for improving the speed and responsiveness of Xperia X10. The announcement was made on an official blog citing that the update will carry speed improvements in messaging tasks and camera UI specifically.

If the update carries froyo then it would be a double treat for the customers. The Android 2.2 ROM for Desire is much faster than Android 2.1 and almost 2 to five times faster than 2.1 eclair. There are many other useful features that come with android 2.2 update apart from flash 10.1, native internet tethering and application manager. Hi all,

Many of you have been asking about the software update coming to the Xperia X10 this summer and we are pleased to share the details of it today.

This update will be gradually rolled out across our markets over the coming weeks, pending the completion of quality approvals for individual markets and operators. The first updates are now live across selected markets. Please check with your local Sony Ericsson customer support when the upgrade will be available for your market and network.

When the update is available in your market you will receive a message in the notification bar of your X10. The easiest way to get the new software is to accept this update – you can use your mobile network connection or a WiFi connection for the download. Alternatively you can update your phone using your PC – please visit www.sonyericsson.com/update and follow the instructions.

This update focuses on improving the general performance, speed and responsiveness of Xperia X10. For example, there are speed improvements in messaging tasks and camera UI. In addition we add a free back up and restore application so you’ll never lose your settings and information. In selected markets, PlayNow with premium apps and games will also be added.

We hope you like these improvements. Please continue to interact with us. We listen to your feedback.

THIS IS THE REAL SONY ERICSSON BLOG UPDATE ON THE X10

Sony Ericsson Experia X10 update begins rolling out this weekend
Posted on Friday, Oct 29, 2010 by Jesse Potter
If you listen carefully, you can hear the cheer of X10 users all around the world celebrating their impending update to Android 2.1. Scheduled to begin on Sunday in Nordic countries, this 2.1 update will crawl around the world, one market at a time over the coming months.

Although the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 didn’t perform as well as we’d hoped, we were optimistic that its flaws would be ironed out with updates, but unfortunately, the x10 family has been stuck on Android 1.6 since its launch back in August. The hardware inside the Xperia X10 isn’t cutting edge, but it certainly isn’t outdated by any means. Whatever reasons Sony Ericsson had to launch the X10 with an outdated OS remains a mystery to us. I can say with a certain measure of confidence that the X10 would have been received better had it been loaded with Android 2.1. Here’s to hoping an Eclair is all the X10 needed to achieve its full potential.

But I digress. Xperia X10 users, get ready to start enjoying your device even more. Check out the list of enhancements after the break. [via Sony Ericsson Blog]

The Xperia X10 is set to receive the following improvements:

•HD video recording with continuous auto-focus.
•A new back up and resotre application, featuring extended content back up.
•Social phonebook which syncs contact pictures from Facebook, and will notify you when your friends online.
The Xperia X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro will receive the following improvements:

•Improved Bluetooth functionality with support for sending and receiving pictures, contacts, and more.
•A new back up and resotre application, featuring extended content back up.
•Automatic synchronization of your contact pictures between Facebook and your phone book.
•Improved handling of pictures, audio, text, and numbers in your messages.
